Baby Tree Kangaroo Emerges from Mother's Pouch

Female Goodfellow's tree kangaroo joey is only just beginning to emerge since she was born to first-time mother, Qwikilas, last September. This is Taronga Zoo's first successful birth of this adorable tree-dwelling macropod species in more than 20 years.

Native to the tropical rainforests of New Guinea and Indonesia, Goodfellow's tree-kangaroos are listed under the IUCN classification as endangered due to overhunting and habitat destruction.
