Malaysian Girl Rescues Sinking Wooden Canoe

The youngster from Mabul Island - a fishing village off the coast of Malaysia - spots the submersed wooden boat and clings to a jetty as she secures each side of it underwater with her feet.

She then starts tipping the canoe side-to-side using her leg strength and amazing balance. Gradually the water splashes out and the sailing vessel bobs back to the surface.

This ethnic group from southeast Asia often live their entire lives on the water and are sometimes referred to as Sea Gypsies. Many live in villages built on stilts in the middle of the ocean and travel by wooden boats.
